#morethanordinary – meet Tarryn & Lauren
Fun, fun, fun! In this #morethanordinary post we chat to sisters-in-law, Tarryn and Lauren - both of whom are mom's and have just launched an exciting business together. Read on to find out more...
Tell us about yourselves and your families
We are sisters-in-law who both had our first babies within 7 months of each other, so are fortunate to have the help and support of each other during and after pregnancy. We both grew up in KZN. Before launching our own business Lauren was an interior designer with a well-known company in Hillcrest. I, Tarryn, am a qualified teacher. I specialised in early childhood development and remedial teaching and use to work at Penzance Primary School.
Tell us a bit about the business you’ve started?
Situated at Funnell HQ (our husbands run Funnell Cars and Funnell Properties), Fun Kids is Hillcrest’s hive for modern moms specialising in baby and toddler interactive classes. Fun Kids is also the Upper Highway’s hub for pre- and post-pregnancy educational talks by industry leaders, support groups for like-minded mothers, workshops and health & fitness classes. Our purpose-built, kid-friendly, playground is can also be hired as a toddler party venue.
How do you juggle starting a business and being moms?
To be honest, we work solidly during all nap times and finish our work once our little ones are tucked in at night. We also have our "business meetings" at our Fun Kids playground in the afternoon where our children can run around safely and have fun, while we brainstorm ideas and make notes. It has been a little daunting starting a new business with two young children, but we are so thankful for our supportive husbands, who have been behind us since we started this exciting venture.
What do you enjoy doing with your family on the weekend?
Brad, Lauren and Sebastian own a beautiful house on Albert Falls Dam, so most weekends you can find them there, soaking up the sun and enjoying quality time as a family. Brendon, Tarryn and Frankie love exploring what Durban has to offer from a toddler's perspective on the weekend: Mini Town, The Bird Park and uShaka, we are spoilt for choice.
What’s your favourite ZUZU collective product?
We absolutely love the ranges of organic baby products like Yorba and Pure Beginnings, we are firm believers in good skincare from day one. And we also love Peony and Pea matching sets, they are absolutely amazing and also created by a local mom which is so fabulous. We have loved meeting other like-minded moms in the community, who support one another and their businesses.
