Get to know the brand – Ben Rabbit
Ben Rabbit products are absolutely stunning. Do yourself a favour and browse here. We caught up with Michelle; the full-time working mom, wife and entrepreneur to find out a bit more about this brand.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello, my name is Michelle and I live in the beautiful city of Cape Town. I am a wife and mother to an adventurous 3 year old boy and a darling 10 month old girl. My family is everything to me and when we are not working you will find us hanging out together.
How did Ben Rabbit come about?
I have always loved making things with my hands and somehow when I entered the corporate world I lost a bit of that magic. When I fell pregnant with my son I spent a lot of time looking at all the wonderful brands overseas and on Pinterest. I saw a gap in the South African market and It started from there. The desire to start making things again, awoke my creative side and so began the story of BR.
Where do you find inspiration?
Every day moments. We are outdoor people and I am inspired by what lies around me, be it the beach, the woods or the mountains. Childhood is supposed to be fun. Both my husband and I have a pretty wild imagination.
Who makes your products/what goes into the production/design of your products?
It varies from product to product, most of our products are made by me, from the design to the printing. If you walk into our house you will always find a trail of Ben Rabbit left behind. I outsource some of the sewing to local CMT’s and try keep everything local and proudly South African.
How do you spend your weekends relaxing?
We love being outdoors and you will probably find us at the beach, digging up our garden or hanging with friends.
You’re a mom, what has surprised you about having children?
I love that I get to be a kid again, somewhere between childhood and adulthood you lose that lust for life, that adventurous spirit...playing with my boy and being captivated by his imagination.
How do you juggle being a working mom?
I still work full time so the juggle is real. When I get home after work it’s all about the kids, they come first always. It's after they go down that BR comes alive. My husband also works most evenings, so together we enjoy a lot of good coffee and keep each other motivated.
